No increase to probate fees

By RJP LLP on 29 April 2019

It was widely reported that the cost of obtaining Grant of Probate would increase on 1 April 2019, but this has thankfully not transpired; probate fees were due to increase from £155 or £215 to a massive £20,000 for some estates which was obviously highly controversial. It seems however that the government have got cold feet in a time of political turbulence and put the proposals ‘on hold for now’.

This means that the flat rate charge for probate services currently remains at £215 (or £155 if you use an authorised probate practitioner).

Help with obtaining Probate

RJP LLP is licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to offer a full probate service for clients. This includes:

  • Collecting in details of all estate assets;
  • Preparing inheritance tax calculations and submitting inheritance tax returns to HMRC;
  • Agreeing the inheritance tax liability with HMRC;
  • Obtaining Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration;
  • Collecting in all assets;
  • Preparing estate accounts;
  • Calculating the tax position to the date of death and for the period of administration of the estate;
  • Distributing estate assets.

By administering the complex inheritance tax paperwork and the probate paperwork on your behalf, the entire procedure can be dealt with by one professional. Apart from making things easier for you, it means a notoriously long-winded process can be completed more quickly, which also saves costs.
