2009 Pre-Budget Report

Our Thoughts and Comments

We predicted it would be a controversial pre-budget report and it lived up to expectations, with some headline measures that are clearly designed to win over the hearts and minds of Labour’s core supporters.  But in spite of this, most observers would agree that overall, it was probably the best result that could be expected for small business owners.

We have prepared a detailed analysis of the main changes setting out how these will impact on you and your business.

As mentioned in our e-mail yesterday we also have on our website, a summary of the main measures announced in the Chancellor's speech.

Tax Planning

Following the clarity provided by the pre-budget report we now have a window of opportunity to carry out structured tax planning to minimise the impact of the new 50% higher rate tax band and the abolition of personal allowances for top earners which will take effect on 6 April 2010.

We have ideas for both personal and corporate tax planning so if you think you will be affected, please contact us to see how we can help.

And finally....this is our last Newswire of 2009 and not many of us will be sorry to see the end of this year!  All of us at Robert James Partnership would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy Christmas and here's to a Prosperous 2010!

Please contact Lesley Stalker, Simon Paterson or Paul Webb on 0870 2255220 for more information.
