Inheritance Tax

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is a tax paid by your estate when you die. In addition it can be charged on certain lifetime gifts.

Traditionally IHT was seen as a tax on the wealthy but with average house prices in the South East of England approaching the nil rate band of £275,000 (2005/06) it is no longer just a concern for the seriously wealthy.

Inheritance tax is often referred to as a 'voluntary tax' as, unlike many other taxes, there are plenty of things you can do now to make sure you pass as much of your wealth on to your family and friends, not the taxman.

Our inheritance tax services include:

  • Preparation of a detailed IHT planning report to assess your current IHT exposure;
  • Preparation and review of tax-effective wills;
  • Advice on lifetime planning;
  • The use of trusts;
  • The use of insurance based IHT solutions;
  • Interaction with Capital Gains Tax; and
  • Domicile planning.
